Malaysian search trends throughout the fall of 2016 indicate a strong preference for staycations. With notable exceptions for Bangkok and nearby Singapore. Kuala Lumpur retains its place as the top getaway location, while Malacca, Langkawi and Johor Bahru remain in second, third, and fourth place respectively.
From the fall of 2015 through to the fall of 2016, the trending up locations were also largely domestic. With Subang Jaya and Kota Kinabalu pushing out Shah Alam and George Town from the top 10 list. London, meanwhile was also trending upwards among Malaysian travelers, placed in 14th, the only location outside of Asia to make the list.
As mentioned, the period also saw a general decline in users searching for Shah Alam and George Town. Also, falling in demand were the smaller regions of Kuantan and Petaling Jaya.
